Garlic Bread Cheese Melt

  • Author: Alessia

Ingredients

  • Bread: 1 loaf of Italian or French bread, sliced lengthwise. The foundation of our cheesy masterpiece! Choose a sturdy loaf that can hold up to the toppings.
  • Butter: ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened. For richness and flavor, butter is key. Softened butter is easier to spread evenly.
  • Garlic: 4-5 cloves garlic, minced. The star flavor! Freshly minced garlic provides the best pungent aroma and taste.
  • Fresh Parsley: 2 tablespoons, chopped. Adds a touch of freshness and color. Optional, but highly recommended for visual appeal and a bright note.
  • Dried Oregano: 1 teaspoon. Provides a subtle earthy and savory depth to complement the garlic and cheese.
  • Salt: ½ teaspoon. Enhances all the flavors and balances the richness of the butter and cheese.
  • Black Pepper: ¼ teaspoon. Adds a hint of spice and depth. Freshly ground black pepper is always preferred.
  • Shredded Cheese: 2 cups (about 8 ounces) shredded mozzarella, cheddar, or a blend. The gooey, melty goodness! Mozzarella is classic for its stretchiness, cheddar adds sharpness, or use a blend for complexity.

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Getting the oven preheated ensures even cooking and melty cheese perfection from the start.
  2. Prepare the Garlic Butter: In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated and the butter is fragrant with garlic and herbs. This aromatic butter is the heart of our garlic bread. Make sure the garlic is finely minced to distribute the flavor evenly throughout the butter.
  3. Spread the Garlic Butter: Generously spread the garlic butter evenly over both cut sides of the bread loaf. Ensure you cover the entire surface of the bread with the garlic butter for maximum flavor in every bite. Don’t be shy with the butter – it soaks into the bread and creates that signature garlic bread taste.
  4. Add the Cheese: Sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly over the garlic buttered sides of the bread. Distribute the cheese uniformly to ensure every part of the garlic bread cheese melt gets that cheesy, gooey topping. You can use a single type of cheese or create layers with different varieties for a more complex flavor profile.
  5. Bake: Place the cheese-topped bread halves on a baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the bread is golden brown and crispy around the edges. Keep an eye on it towards the end of baking to prevent burning. The cheese should be beautifully melted and slightly browned, and the bread should be toasted but not overly hard.
  6. Broil (Optional for extra browning): For a more golden brown and slightly crispy cheese topping, you can broil for the last 1-2 minutes. Watch very closely while broiling to prevent burning, as broilers can heat up quickly. Broiling adds a lovely caramelized top layer to the cheese.
  7. Slice and Serve: Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly for a minute or two before slicing into desired portions. This makes it easier to handle and prevents burning your mouth with molten cheese! Slice into individual portions or leave in larger sections for sharing. Serve immediately while warm and cheesy.
